Generally, most of the United States has highway speeds between 65 and 75 miles per hour, with a few lower or higher depending on the area. The limits are set by local municipalities for in-town traffic, and each state sets highway speed limits. People like to blame it on speed because it's easy, but I personally believe that there are many components involved, starting with: driving skill, car driven, physical condition, and responsibility awareness. Speed limits are simply the maximum, or the minimum, speed a vehicle can legally travel. In my opinion, speed limit on its own does very little to reduce road accidents. I'd rather have people thought how behave responsibly on their own, than told.
